“Are You Working From Your Couch?”

Welcome back to “Conversations with Kendall.” Last week we talked all about our friendships, our partners, and our families … How to keep our social lives on track. This time of quarantine is not only to get creative with your “social” activities but also to spend time getting into all of those good habits and routines that we have failed to follow-through with.
As I reflect on myself, I think of the stretches I told myself I was going to do every morning or the exercise equipment that I bought on Amazon last month (currently doing an excellent job collecting dust). I even think of the daily affirmations I swore I was going to write down first thing in the morning to put my mind in a positive lane with the start of each new day.
I’m racking my brain… why is this execution not happening? Especially with all of this time on my hands, I beat myself up, which then throws me even further away from really doing these things. I have had no problem committing to a WHOLE season of something on Netflix, becoming one with the couch, or cooking (and eating) ALL the food. I can’t deny that I am guilty of procrastination, or maybe I should call it complete denial when it comes to these little daily routines. I imagine though, how great would I feel if I wrote down those affirmations, took a break from work and stretched, got my blood flowing in some way. How good would I feel if I used this quarantine time to establish habits that will become my life routine post quarantine? We can come out of this a better version of ourselves … AND WE WILL!!
I have included a video with this week’s column. I know most of my readers sit at a desk for work. Now that we are all at home, maybe you’re even sitting on your couch or your favorite lounge chair. Either way, this video is for you. I have included a few stretching exercises and a few calorie burners. Together they will work to alleviate your upper and lower back and curb any extra baggage you may or may not be carrying (but let’s be real, we’ve all got a little extra junk in the trunk these days). I’m sure we all suffer the pain of the “the desk hunch”, man that is the killer for me, now that I’m leaning forward to my computer that sits on the coffee table, I may not have a back at all anymore.
My goal with this instructional video is to get us to slow down. No, I don’t mean slow down in terms of being on the go (clearly… LOL), I mean slow down to listen to our bodies and our minds. Take a break from work every couple of hours and implement some of these stretches and exercises I have demonstrated. You will feel your brain and body breathe. You will work better and have a clearer head.
I’m hoping that whoever is reading this will say “Today is the day … the day I’m going to start implementing a healthy routine … for me!” I promise to practice what I preach … I think. I have stretched twice while writing this column, I have written down my five affirmations of the day (which was much tougher than one might think) and I am feeling ready to attack a new week. Let’s do this!!
