1) Hey Mica, congrats on your solo album, which we are hearing is tremendous, and the current single of course! Let's go back a while- what was it like to go from waiting on tables, singing around town, to singing with Faith Hill?
The bathrooms were cleaner!! Kidding of course. :-) I did so many odd jobs the first nine years I lived in Nashville I was just simply ecstatic to pay my bills doing what I loved. I never loved waiting tables, but I'm glad I did it. I believe all the jobs gave me a greater appreciation for the gig.
2) You had offers to attend some very prestigious music schools, but turned them down to travel with your music- can you tell us a little about that decision and why you chose the path you're on?
When I was growing up I always knew that I wanted to do this. It was hard for people to understand why I wouldn't go to college. I had scholarships that I turned down but I knew without a shadow of a doubt that this was what I wanted to do. So, that's what I did.
3) What was it like the first time you heard your current single, "Things a Mama Don't Know," on the radio?
I've only heard it once on the radio so far. It was an overwhelming emotional experience. I felt like an overnight success BUT, it's been a LONG damn night. :-)
4) Currently you are doing some of your own stuff in Toby's show correct? What is that experience like.
I've been touring with Toby for almost five years. I've sung different band intro songs and duets with Toby over the last five years in his shows. It was however quite a huge change to walk out front and do my single with him. For the first time, I felt like I was holding my own bag.
5) Can you tell us a little about the forthcoming album? You wrote many of the songs for the project, right? Where do you get your inspiration from when you write?
I have co-written several of the songs we have picked so far for the album. What inspires me to write is easy. Real life.
6) Who would be someone that you would love to duet with- anyone- alive or not, any format?
Willie Nelson
7) So we know that you are an avid weight trainer- when do you get time to workout on the road?
Well, I work out in the mornings. I'm such a fuddy duddy. I'm usually in my pajamas and bunk within 45 minutes of the end of the show! I either go to a gym during the day or if I'm in an arena I run the bleachers. Megan from my management company is out on tour with me, and she keeps me on the straight and narrow generally!
8) Are there any plans for a solo tour yet?
No plans for a solo tour yet! Toby hasn't quite kicked me out of the nest!! Thank God!
9) Name a couple of songs that fall in to the 'songs you wish you'd written' category? And by the way, what is your favorite song to cover?
"Chiseled In Stone," "Send in the Clowns" and "What You Think Is Fair."
My favorite song to cover would be "What You Think Is Fair."
10) You had the challenging task of following Gloria Gaynor on stage at the Disco Party at CRS, after she brought the house down. Was that daunting or do you love that kind of challenge? You kicked ass by the way- nice job.
I LOVE great singers. She was and still is amazing. It just inspired me to sing! I just wanted to give my best performance, but I always do.
