TITLE:PDSTATIONS:KNAH 106.3 HANK FMMARKET:MercedCOMPANY:Mapleton CommunicationsBORN:Southern by the grace of GODRAISED:Tampa, Fl
Please outline your radio career so far:
Air talent KJMQ Magic 92.5, Air talent KBRE "The BEAR still ROCKS, APD & Air talent for KTIQ, APD / MD at a station I can't remember and most listeners in our market can't remember anymore & Program Director & Mornings for KNAH 106.3 HANK FM
1) A lot has changed in your life in the last 5 months, a new station, a promotion, a new air shift, and a new set of call letters. How are you juggling it all so far?
It's been easier than expected. The daily tasks are easier when you're surrounded by enthusiastic, non complacent, team oriented people and solid management. The response to the station is exciting, from both businesses and listeners alike. My favorite quote so far was "thank you for giving us what's been missing for so long, it's about time Merced had a Country station!"
2) When you flipped KNAH to Country what was your inspiration for the new playlist? What image did you want to achieve?
I've always said "you can't know where you're going in this format without realizing where it's been." I walked into a situation where someone "finally got it!" I have a taken a foundation created by two men I respect tremendously (Mike Anthony & Howard Kroeger) and in regards to the image, we have attitude, but not one some would call over the top.
HANK to me is the same as taking a car and red lining it, to where the needle is the furthest it can be in the red, without blowing the engine! Whether we're working or playing, helping out or prayind, we just do it hard, there is no other way to do it!
3) Has anyone told you that KNAH looks a lot like HANK backwards?
Really? Well, what else would you expect from a station that has B-MO in the Morning?
4) We've heard that with your new PD gig you have also taken on Mornings, how do you like your new bedtime? Any remotes from your bed yet?
It took a little time to get use to. I'm down when my son Mason goes to sleep. It's funny my wife Laura laughs because he's in his crib with his bottle, I'm in our bed with mine!!! It's okay, she really tells incredible stories!
In regards to remotes from bed, not yet, but I'll consider it!
5) You have always been very involved in charitable giving; do you plan on continuing that at KNAH?
Definitely! One of the biggest reasons I came back to Mapleton was the company's outlook and involvement with serving the community. The Superstar Charity was my creation when I worked across the street and it'll only be bigger and better, trust me!
6) HANK flipped with the first song being Willie Nelson's, "My Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys." What mix of music could we expect to hear on HANK?
"We play everything Country" is more than a clever catch phrase. it's a promise kept as HANK plays the new, the known and the legends! I'm proud as hell of this station and I've got 1,500 reasons why in my music library that keep me that way!
7) Aside from music what else are you passionate about?
My family, hands down, which is more than my sons Mason & Payton, my daughters Angelina & Chynna, the little one on the way and my best friend & wife Laura. It's my listeners and making sure they've got exactly what they want in a radio station.
8) Who are your heroes and not just radio heroes?
Every man and woman who's served or is serving our country in the armed forces, my wife for standing beside me through it all and Susan Brown (because if I went through this whole thing without mentioning her name, she'd never let me hear the end of it!).
9) Fill in the blank: I can't make it through the day without...
My right hand Bob Henson (my Music Director & Afternoon host)
10) When did you first start listening to Country music?
Honestly, I can't remember NOT listening to it!
Bonus Questions
1. What would you do and where would you live if you hit the lottery?
The same thing I do now, except I'd own the station and I'd make my GM fix my coffee!
2. What did you think you wanted to do when you were a kid?
I'm doing it and I still haven't grown up!
3. What was the best advice you've ever gotten? And the worst?
Answer these questions and the chicks will dig ya and the worst, answer these questions and the chicks will dig ya!
