TITLE:MusicianLABEL:Curb/Bellamy BrothersBORN:A few years backRAISED:Darby, FL
1) What made you cut a Country/Christian project at this time in your career?
Gospel/Christian music is what we grew up singing in the Amelia Baptist church back in Darby FL, having done a gospel song here and there on past albums we decided we wanted to do an album of all gospel but wanted it to be original.
2) The first single at radio is "Drug Problem" can you give us some background on the song?
Drug problem is the story of how we were raised. Our parents never went anywhere they couldn't take their kids and we were "drug" to all the places we mention in the song and more, it occurred to us that if more parents raised their kids that way they might be better off given the current problems we have with today's youth.
3) Your songwriting has always had a humorous bend and "Lord Help Be The Kind Of Person (My Dog Thinks I Am)" is definitely hilarious. And, "Get Into Reggae Cowboy," is also quite hilarious. Where do you guys come up with these lines?
I saw a sign that said "Lord help me be the kind of person my cat thinks I am," I said that's a great idea for a song but it has to be a dog because dogs are really loyal and usually have an undying love for their master no matter what, reggae cowboy came to us when we were walking down the streets of NY wearing our hats and boots. A Rastafarian guy jumped in front of us and said, "Hey cowboys, get into reggae," we took his advice and I went back to the hotel and wrote the song.
4) Sometimes your songs can create controversy and the title track "Jesus Is Coming" will certainly do that with the line, "Jesus Is Coming/And Boy Is He Pissed." What has been the reaction so far? Also, you said that there is a lot to be angry about right now. Please elaborate a bit.
We have received some negative mail about the song. People quoting scripture and saying they were taking the CD back to the store because they were scared to own it, other people saying it was blasphemous- we've also received some positive feedback telling us they were performing the song at their church. When we look around at the world in its present state it's hard to imagine Jesus not being pissed- school shootings, sexual abuse in churches, corporate scandals, child abuse- and add that in with all the crooked politicians. It's just our opinion, but we'd say he's angry.
5) And I hear a fan taped a rehearsal of the song and it's now up on You Tube.
Because we tour so much we don't always have a lot of rehearsal time so we'll run through a song at sound check when no one but the band and crew are there. Someone at a recent sound check rehearsal of "Jesus is Coming" sneaked a video and put it on You Tube, we started getting calls from our band and some friends tellin' us it was on there a couple of weeks ago.
6) I also hear that you're cutting a video for "Jesus Is Coming"
We hope to shoot video for some of the material on the album; we haven't decided which songs yet. But there would be a lot of material to incorporate in a song like "'Jesus is Coming."
7) Is it us or have you been nominated for 'Duo of the Year," from the CMA and ACM like 4 billion times?
We have been nominated for duo of the year so many times we've lost count, people always say, you must be really angry with Brooks & Dunn for beating you every year. We say no, we're mad at the Judds for beating us for 10 years before Brooks & Dunn came along.
8) What artists are there that you would still like to work/record with?
Bob Dylan
9) How often are you guys in Nashville?
We fly from Florida into Nashville to meet our bus and hit the road. Our band is here, our label, and our booking agency, so we do a lot of work out of Nashville. But we still live in Florida on the old family homestead
10) Which new artists do you find interesting?
We just mainly like good songs, if it's by an old artist or new one, if it's country or whatever. We pay more attention to songs than artist.
