2006 Sr National Director COLUMBIA to present1. After many years at Arista, you just moved to Columbia Records. That has to be very exciting, how has the adjustment been going and has the move reenergized you?
The interesting fact is that I started my Promotion career at Columbia 14 years ago- coming from SONY DISTRIBUTION!
So it's full circle! It has re-energized me, the new Columbia team is awesome and the roster is so rolid. I am totally excited about this new venture for many reasons.
2. If you weren't doing what you do now, what else could you see yourself doing. And what did you want to be when you were a kid?
Personal shopper.
As a kid I wanted to be a vet but I know now I would just cry all the time. I can't stand to see an animal hurt.
3. It seems unfortunate that there's not more women than there are, in executive positions like yours. Why do you think that is and what can be done to encourage more women to drive for those higher positions?
I think more and more women are entering into higher positions. I have had the fortunate experience to work with many females who I respect and admire and all have been very encouraging and supportive: Meg Stevens at WGAR, Cindy Mabe & Jeri Cooper at Arista, Shelly Easton at WCTO, ReneeLeymon at Lyric Street, Kim Leslie, Denise Roberts. I can name many women who have encouraged me throughout my career and who I admire- I have been very fortunate to always have the support of my female peers.
4. I know that you have to be exciting about some of the music that you'll be marketing. What are some of the things that you are really enthusiastic about breaking?
The new ASHLEY MONROE with Ronnie Dunn is so exciting, and I get to work with Ronnie Dunn again- as well as Brett James who co-wrote the song with Ashley.
The new Miranda Lambert single coming out in Oct is simply awesome, and to be honest I was always a fan of hers. I even bought her first record!
The Montgomery Gentry project is so solid- they have really gone to the next level.
I just heard the new Gretchen Wilson single- that will come out in Nov- I am predicting VERY good things from that release & Trent Willmon is a babe :)
5. Tell us some of the people that have been mentors to you throughout your career.
I think the person that has had the most dramatic influence on me personally and my career is my former VP/Promotion and dear freind for almost 12 years- Bobby Kraig- I miss him every day- (even though we are in close contact). I say to myself when in tough situations, "what would Bobby say? Or "what would Bobby do"
I cannot say enough positive things about him and to me there is no one better in this business than him. I consider my self very very fortunate to have worked with him.
6. What does Teddi B listen to in her spare time, what are your musical guilty pleasures for instance or what's in your car player right now?
I am listening to the advance of the new Michael W Smith that Terry Hemmings from Provident sent me, as well as Chris Tomlison- both Comtemporary Christian acts.
Pedicures & going to see movies with my husband is my most favorite thing to do in my spare time.
7. What do you like to do in your down time, we have a strong feeling here at ALL ACCESS that you like to shop.
Jim- you have known me way too long and know me way too well!
8. What's the first thing that you do when you get to the office in the morning?
Check the spins on all my singles!!!!
9. What advice would you give to a younger (or older) person that wanted to get into the music business?
To take any position possible to work your way up- and show the higher ups- that YOU deserve the shot to prove yourself. It worked for me.
10. If Hollywood was about to make a movie about your life, The Teddi B Story, what Hollywood star would you want to portray yourself.
Meg Ryan without a doubt.
Bonus Questions
1. What's your favorite restaurant in Nashville to take visitors from out of town?
Park Cafe
2. What's your favorite movie from the last year?
That's a hard one. I think the last year in general was not too compelling at the movies....
But I do want to see that new movie with Ben Afleck about the star who portrayed the original Superman, George Reeves.
3. Is it possible to stump Larry Pareigis with a trivia question about TV, movies, books or music? It seems like he's read, seen, watched everything imaginable!
You are right, I have NEVER met anyone so educated in current cedia- OR history! I guarantee you- one cannot bring up a subject that he hasn't read about or seen a movie about- AND can quote lines from them!
He amazes me!!!
