Please outline your radio career so far:

1. What was your first job in radio? Early influences?
KYKS/LUFKIN, TX. Early influences are KIDD KRADDICK, BO ROBERTS, WOLFMAN JACK and REDBEARD.
2. Can you be a boss and also a friend to your employees?
Yes, but it's hard. The midday guy, John T. Walker, and I are in a band together. I hate having to fuss at him sometimes, but that's part of the deal. Besides, John T. knows he's a slacker anyway.
3. Of all the skills that you've gained as a programmer, which area are you NOT as strong as you would like to be?
People skills and motivating people. I am still a relatively new PD, so this will come with time.
4. If you are wearing more hats today, than say last year, what area is suffering, and what are you doing about it?
I am just now getting back into being a PD. It's been 3 years, so ask me in a year.
5. What do you think of National Contesting? Is it effective?
We have had about half a dozen collective winners at Wizard 106 in the last six months. It works.
6. Will the advent of Satellite Radio affect our biz? Explain!
In time it will. We are a smaller market, so I think it will take a little longer. But I think people want to know about the weather and community events. They can't get that with satellite radio.
7. What do you like best about your job? Least?
Best---you can affect people's lives with charity events and move people with music. Least-working every weekend.
8. What do you plan to differently in the next year regarding work and family?
Try to balance everything and not get so worked up about everything. I am a workaholic, and becoming a PD again makes it worse.
9. Who are your programming mentors?
Tom Freeman, Danny Merrell, Scott Johnson, Clay Hunnicutt, Steve Kelley, Rick Adams, Dan O'Day.
10. Who's your favorite air/personality not on your air staff?
Howard Stern.
Bonus Questions
1. Favorite artist that you have met?
Gary from Lynyrd Skynyrd. I'm a guitar player and he told me "keep pickin'" that was cool.
2. Next Superstar Programmer?
Bill Hughes.
3. Do you have Musical Guilty Pleasures?
ABBA.
