On September 28th, Warner Music Nashville will release an album out of the vault from 16 years ago. The album, "1994," by Shaun Camp, was the artist's second album, but for reasons that only record labels know, the album never saw the light of day- until now.
"The label said it didn't sound like the latest hit," Camp says. "They wanted me to change everything. Told me to take all the fiddles and dobros off and put electric guitars on. I got crossways and never did it."
Warner Music Nashville's new President/CEO John Esposito happened to catch Camp at at last year's Leadership Music opening retreat. He was "mesmorized" by Shawn's music. "This stuff is magic," Esposito says of first hearing the album. "There's this sly, underlying sexiness to Shawn's songwriting that I dig. I was trained to sign people who are magnificent and then to allow them show their magnificence. It shouldn't be about trying to change what they do."
Camp has not exactly been sitting around waiting for something to happen. He has written plenty of hits, like "Two Pina Coladas" for Garth Brooks and George Strait's"River of Love." He also released four critically-acclaimed CDs on his own.
