Jamey Johnson
Oct 11, 2010
According to The Boot blog, Mercury/Nashville artist Jamey Johnson is teaming with gospel greats the Blind Boys of Alabama to make the group's next album. Jamey has recruited some fellow artists for the project as well. Vince Gill, George Jones, Hank Williams Jr. and the Oak Ridge Boys are among the artists who will sing on the album. He even brought his father in to lend his vocals to one track.
Jamey recently brought the Blind Boys of Alabama out on stage to perform some gospel favorites with him during his concert at the Montgomery Performing Arts Center. He also performed with them in March at the Alabama Music Hall of Fame awards ceremony, when he received the Hall of Fame's Rising Star Award.
"Religious would be the best word that comes to mind about performing with them. It was just like being in church, singing with the quartets I sang with growing up," said Jamey. "I've never heard anything like the Blind Boys. They are just incredible, and they've been doing this for 75 years."
There is no release date yet but check out more about the project at http://www.theboot.com/2010/09/30/jamey-johnson-blind-boys-of-alabama-album/. For more on Jamey Johnson, visit www.jameyjohnson.com and for more on the Blind Boys of Alabama, check out www.blindboys.com.
