Actor/comedian/musician Steve Martin will release his second full length bluegrass album called "Rare Bird Alert" on Rounder Records on March 15th. Steve will be joined by the Steep Canyon Rangers, who toured extensively with Martin over the last year. Martin also co-wrote two of the CD's songs with the Steep Canyon Rangers.
"Rare Bird Alert" features thirteen new Martin-penned tracks, including a live version of "King Tut." The project was produced by Tony Trishka. Sir Paul McCartney and The Dixie Chicks make special guest vocal appearances on the album.
"'Rare Bird Alert' represents an intense, but joyful period of songwriting and touring. My love of this music continues," said Martin.
Martin is a four-time Grammy winner, the latest for his last album "The Crow: New Songs for the Five-String Banjo," which won "Best Bluegrass Album" in 2009. He has also taken home a Grammy for his collaboration with Earl Scruggs on "Foggy Mountain Breakdown" in 2001 and two for comedy albums "Wild and Crazy Guy" in 1978 and "Let's Get Small" in 1977.
