Capitol Records Nashville star Darius Rucker and the New Mexico Lottery have unveiled a new scratch-off game based on Rucker's latest album "Charleston SC 1966." The Darius Rucker Scratcher is available now at 1,100 stores across New Mexico. The game's top cash prize is $65,000 and tickets are $5 each.
The sale of New Mexico Lottery games benefits Legislative Lottery Scholarships, a college tuition-assistance program. Since starting in 1996, the New Mexico Lottery has raised $466 million for education and more than 68,000 students have attended college on Legislative Lottery Scholarships.
"When the New Mexico Lottery asked me to participate in their campaign for education through the Scratcher, I immediately recalled my own high school days when I was asking myself how I would pay for college," said Rucker, who was recently honored with an alumni award from the University of South Carolina. "It is progressive programs like this that further the awareness and funding for scholarship programs, and I'm excited to be involved as a representative of the Country music community."
"With a hit album in the charts and a new single coming out this spring, Darius is at the center of what's hot in Country entertainment," Tom Romero, New Mexico Lottery Chief Executive Officer said. "His star power will help build player awareness for all New Mexico Lottery games and maximize revenues for the state's college scholarship program."
In addition to instant cash prizes, the Darius Rucker Scratcher offers second-chance drawings for players with non-winning tickets. Two players will win prize packages that include trips for two to meet Rucker in Nashville and see him perform at the CMA Music Festival, which is held in June. Players can enter their tickets into the drawing at www.nmlottery.com. The drawing is scheduled for May 10th.
