Mercury/Nashville artist Julianne Hough will star as the female lead in the upcoming movie adaption of the Broadway musical "Rock Of Ages." Hough will play the role of Sherrie, a woman from Kansas who moves to Hollywood to be an actress.
"She came in and when she left, everybody stood around looking at each other with chills and said, 'We found our girl,'" Director Adam Shankman told E! Online.
Hough's label mate Laura Bell Bundy originally played the role of Sherrie for a six-week run in Los Angeles in January 2006. Tom Cruise will also star in the film as musician Stacee Jaxx but Sherrie's love interest in the film has yet to be cast. R&B singer Mary J. Blige will play the role of Justice. Shooting for "Rock Of Ages" will start in May in Florida and it's expected to be released in 2012.
The movie features hair-metal songs from the 1980s, including Bon Jovi, Styx, Twisted Sister and Poison. Cruise is expected to sing at least one song.
Hough already has some acting roles to her credit, including the 2010 musical, "Burlesque," starring and the 2011 remake of the film, "Footloose," which began filming in 2010. She also appears as a Hogwarts schoolgirl in "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone."
