MCA/Nashville star George Strait and his friend Tom Cusick have teamed to take control of the Tapatio Springs Golf Resort in the Texas Hill Country near Boerne, TX. The resort is 250 acres and located 20 miles outside of San Antonio. They are taking over operations of the resort from Textron Financial Corp., which has owned the property since its foreclosure in June 2010. Financial details were not disclosed.
Tapatio Springs, which was founded in 1981, features 27 holes of golf, a resort hotel, convention and meeting facilities, swimming and a fitness club.
"I have lived near Boerne, and over the years Tom and I watched what was happening at Tapatio Springs and we always believed it could be a real jewel," Strait said. "When the opportunity came up, we decided to go for it and make this dream come true."
Cusick has lived in the area since 1985. He previously founded Benefit Planners, which is based in Boerne, and sold the company to Fiserv in 2001. He has gone on to develop the residential community, Estancia at Thunder Valley, near Boerne since then.
"We see this as a tremendous opportunity to turn Tapatio Springs into an incredible resort that will attract golfers and visitors from across the country," Cusick said. "We are putting together an all-star team to take Tapatio Springs to a completely new level, a point of pride for members and guests, homeowners and the entire Boerne area."
"We have begun our master plan and want the end result to be extraordinary," Strait added.
