Warner Music Nashville and VP Records have joined forces to release "Reggae's Gone Country," which will be available on August 30th. The compilation will feature classic Country hits covered by Jamaican musicians. Original recording artists will also be featured, along with Larry Gatlin of The Gatlin Brothers putting his spin on a few songs.
Vice President of Marketing and Promotions at VP Records, Cristy Barber, envisioned the project two years ago, and teamed up with John Rich, of Big & Rich, for production assistance.
Rich said, "'Reggae's Gone Country' is taking some of Jamaican's favorite classic American Country songs, and putting their beats and whole instrumentation around it while still having that root of country. It is this crazy cool idea."
Barber added, "Everyone from 20-year-old kids to their grandparents listen to Country in Jamaica. People are always so shocked when I say this, but the music plays such an important role in the Caribbean."
"Reggae's Gone Country" will include classic songs such as, Patsy Cline's "Crazy," Crystal Gayle's "Don't It Make My Brown Eyes Blue," Kenny Rogers "The Gambler," Eddie Rabbit's "Suspicions," and many more. The majority of the album was recorded at Kingston's Grafton and Tuff Gong Studios in Jamaica, and was later sent to Nashville for Country instrumentation.
