Ray Stevens
Apr 2, 2012
The name Ray Stevens has been synonymous with recorded comedy music. The GRAMMY award winning comedian has kept audiences bent over in laughter ever since the 60's, and is continuing to do so in present day.
On February 28, 2012 Ray released his "Encyclopedia of Recorded Comedy Music," a 9-disk, 108 song box set. The collection is substantial in the case that this compilation is something that has never been attempted by another artist.
"Recording this entire set has taken me over two years... it has been a real 'labor-of-love.' To say I was influenced by comedy records would be a big understatement. They are a major reason I am who I am musically. I had recorded a couple of regular teen-age love song records that were all the rage in the late 50s but they didn't catch fire nationally for me so I told myself that I needed to do something different and see if I couldn't get the ball rolling," said Stevens.
The box set itself is something one-of-a-kind with beautiful design that is destined to make for a great talking piece and coffee table placement. The songs are also brand new recordings, not re-mastered oldies. Included in the set is a full-color book containing information about the songs, writers, and producers who have all worked diligently to keep us laughing over the years.
"I didn't want these songs to just fade from memory and so I put this package together on behalf of all the great recorded comedy music entertainers from the past. Any kid at-heart who has this encyclopedia on their shelf will have an edge over anyone who is looking for a box full of laughs," added Stevens.
