Lee Ann Womack

MCA Nashville artist Lee Ann Womack is known for her traditional country roots and sound, but will be soon lending her voice to the roots compilation album "Let 'Em In" benefitting The Woman And Cancer Fund, founded by Linda McCartney.
"It's funny- anybody who knows me knows I know almost nothing about pop music! I just grew up on country, and that's what we listened to. And I've always been like 'Led Zep-who? But I've gone through long periods of time when I've sung "Let'Em In" in my live shows, because I just think the song is so good. I love what it says about bringing people together, to let people in - and the musicality of it; it's just fun to sing. So when Phil (Madeira) asked my husband if I'd like to be a part of this, I was delighted! I already knew - and loved the song!" said Womack.
While Lee Ann is finishing her work on her highly anticipated new album, she has also taken part in a Rodney Crowell and award-winning memoirist Mary Karr's collaborative project entitled, "Kin." The song "Mama's On A Roll" paints a hilarious picture of an emotional hurricane in process.
Along with Womack, the record features Lucinda Williams, Nora Jones, Rosanne Cash, Vince Gill, Kris Kristofferson and Rodney Crowell. The album itself deals with the ups and downs of a young man from South Texas trying to sort out love, family, and the challenge of growing up.
"When Rodney called, I was intrigued, because the idea of these songs he'd written with an author of Mary Karr's reputation seemed like a whole lot of smart. But what was most amazing was how downhome and real all the songs were. It felt the way real people feel in their lives, raw in places and philosophical in others. Plus, we cut live. Everybody in a circle at Vince Gill's house - and that's about my favorite way to make music! All the players being out there, being part of it coming together," said Lee Ann.
