Country legend Minnie Pearl is being honored at the Grand Ole Opry as a celebration of the 100th anniversary of her birth. Beginning this week, several events and performances are planned to admire the comedienne's 50-year Opry career. The entertainment that Minnie provided for generations of people caused for a well-deserved commemoration.
"Minnie Pearl's legacy is stronger at the Opry today than it's ever been," Opry VP and General Manager Pete Fisher said. "We're excited about celebrating the love and laughter the character Minnie Pearl embodies with our guests and with our partners at the Minnie Pearl Cancer Foundation. It's going to be a fun celebration throughout the summer and leading up to Minnie's 100th birthday in October."
Some of the events that are taking place in her honor include: Opry House backstage tours, Opry performance and Opry House photo gallery, all of which incorporate Minnie Pearl's character. Opry's official website will now have a special page called "Hat's Off To Minnie" which displays photos and videos, as well as encourages fans to share their favorite "Minnie Moments." The Opry Backstage Grill is also adding a strawberry shortcake birthday dessert to their menu that resembles the comedienne's famous flowered hat.
All events and celebrations will conclude with an Opry show to celebrate the 100th anniversary of her birth on Tuesday, October 23.
"We've been celebrating our 25th anniversary and Minnie's 100th birthday all year long," said The Minnie Pearl Cancer Foundation Executive Director Susan Hosbach. "'We are just so proud' to partner with the Grand Ole Opry to give Minnie and her legacy a celebration worthy of an icon."
