Billy Currington
Jan 4, 2010
Mercury/Nashville artist Billy Currington has established Global South Relief, an organization that will deliver supplies and basic necessities to various Central American countries. Currington has chosen Guatemala and Costa Rica as the first countries to benefit from the organization.
He said: "I've been so inspired by the people of these countries. They survive on very little and it serves as a reminder that I am very blessed and can provide assistance. The goal is to make this an annual trip and to reach as many countries as we can in the future to provide these people with some relief."
Currington and songwriters Brett Jones, Scotty Emerick and Dallas Davidson performed a free show on December 5th at Sloppy Joe's in Key West, FL to raise awareness for the effort. After the show, Currington, Jones, Emerick and Davidson planned to travel to Guatemala and Costa Rica to deliver the first round of goods.
The Global South Relief Foundation is still in development and will soon be able to accept donations. For more info on Global South Relief and to see footage from Currington's previous trips, visit www.globalsouthrelief.org. For the latest on Billy, see www.billycurrington.com.
