Lady Antebellum
Jan 13, 2013
Capitol Records Nashville group LADY ANTEBELLUM made a special vocal appearance this holiday season, but unless you are a fan of "The Oregon Trail" mobile app, you may have not realized it.
"The Oregon Trail: American Settler" is a mobile app based off of the educational computer game, "The Oregon Trail," that originated in the 1980's. The updated version, players can build their own settlement, plant crops, tend to livestock, etc. Dangers are always lurking within the village. Events like wild buffalo stampedes and hurricanes will keep players on their toes as they must raise money for supplies and other necessities. Chat features within the app make it an interactive social game.
Gameloft (the creator of "The Oregon Trail" app) and Capitol Records Nashville teamed up to introduce Country music to gamers and techies who may not be as familiar with the genre. "Given that Lady Antebellum is one of the most popular groups currently out there, we are thrilled to be able to work with the band to not only bring them a new channel to promote their new holiday album, but simultaneously bring our players a high-quality experience that further immerses them into the western frontier as well," said VP of Publishing for the Americas, Baudouin Corman.
The winter version of "The Oregon Trail: American Settler" introduces a new concert hall building, which houses all of the Lady Antebellum content, activities, games and videos. Additionally, the game featured avatars of the trio (Hillary Scott, Charles Kelley and Dave Haywood) who sang Christmas carols to app users throughout the month of December.
Inspired by the release of their holiday album "On This Winter's Night," Lady Antebellum is the first music group to be integrated into the game since the mobile app launched in November of 2011.
Universal Music Group Nashville VP of Digital Marketing, Dawn Gates said, "I'm always looking for strategic branding opportunities and working with Gameloft has provided an extraordinary platform for driving consumer awareness about Lady Antebellum and the 'On This Winter's Night' holiday album within a large and fast-growing digital media outlet."
