Natalie Maines

Natalie Maines, Dixie Chicks trio member, has announced that she will be releasing her debut solo album, "MOTHER," on Tuesday, May 7th.
On the album, Maines has taken in influences by the rock based, edgy and intense sounds of the title track and Pink Floyd cover, "Mother." On this track, Maines teamed up with singer, songwriter and guitarist Ben Harper to bring the song to life.
I wanted this music to be very different from the Dixie Chicks," said Maines. "Lots of albums by lead singers might just as well have been made by the band, but I think this is very different from anything the Chicks could make. That separation and distinction was important."
"Mother" was initially released on "West of Memphis: Voices for Justice," the soundtrack to the documentary "West of Memphis," which chronicles the story of three wrongly-imprisoned Arkansas teenagers known as the West Memphis Three. The song "Free Life" is also included on the album because of its connection to the historical events.
All of the album's 10 songs were selected because of personal connections with Maines. She chose them all because of the relationship, and what started out as a fun recording session with friend Ben Harper, quickly turned into a solo debut album.
"I want to put all my efforts toward this album. I feel completely dedicated to it, and I want to give it everything I can," said Maines.
The full "MOTHER" track listing includes:
- Without You
- Mother
- Free Life
- Silver Bell
- Lover You Should've Come Over
- Vein in Vain
- Trained
- Come Cryin' To Me
- I'd Run Away
