George Jones

George Jones was an iconic and revered Country artist while alive, but since his April passing, appreciation for his one-of-a-kind voice has grown exponentially.
Last month, "God's Country: George Jones And Friends" was released, featuring numerous artists covering Jones' classic recordings.
But Jones was always a Gospel fan too and a great interpreter of the genre. On Tuesday, September 10th, Bandit Records will release "George Jones - Amazing Grace," a collection of Gospel songs recorded in 2002 with producer Billy Sherrill. The two had previously collaborated, most notably on Jones' signature hit, "He Stopped Loving Her Today."
The "Amazing Grace" project is surrounded with irony. Jones would have turned 82 on Thursday, Sept. 12th, two days after the release of "Amazing Grace." The album was the first-ever, dedicated Gospel collection Jones had ever recorded. And he had to coax Sherrill out of retirement for this one last production together.
Bandit was the final label of Jones' storied recording career. He was a partner in the company and his widow, Nancy Jones still is.
