Carrie Underwood

19 Recordings/ Arista Nashville artist Carrie Underwood will grace the cover of November's "Women's Health" magazine. In the issue, she will also discuss several details about her personal life that range from items she can't live without (Coconut Oil, Ezekiel Bread and her old gym shorts) to hosting the upcoming Country Music Association Awards with Brad Paisley and playing the role of Maria in NBC-TV's upcoming "Sound Of Music" remake.
Additionally, Women's Health did a video interview with Carrie that will not be included in their printed article. They asked her a variety of questions including winter fashion preferences, Holiday celebrating, working out, eating habits, and much more.
On Winter fashion: "Some of my favorite go-to winter staples are comfy sweaters, jeans and boots pretty much. That's kind of where I go, where I land."
About Holiday celebrating: "I get to celebrate the holidays usually with my family or my husband's family or a combination of the two. Or go see one and then go see the other. We just get together and we eat and we open presents and laugh and just enjoy each other's company. It's really not too complicated, but it's really nice to be around family during the holidays."
On her engagement: "As far as my love life, something that blew me away would have to be my engagement. My husband calls himself romantically challenged. And if he really applies himself he can do amazing things that surprise me and make me fall in love with him on a regular basis. But he put a lot of thought into our engagement. It's not really something we've talked about too much but he planned it out and he put effort into it and he thought this whole thing out. And that's what meant so much to me is that I could tell he'd been cooking this up in his head for a while. And the effort more than anything just meant so much."
Workouts with her hubby: "My husband is a hockey player and his workouts are pretty intense so it makes me feel really good when I hear him telling his friends, "Oh, she works out, she gets after it, and she's not like your typical girl working out." And I do, I workout hard. Sometimes we do workout together but not a whole heck of a lot because he obviously is a professional athlete and we're not really working out the same muscle groups or doing the same things. But we have before, worked out together, and I think it challenges you when you do workout with somebody else, especially me who's so competitive. I'm not going to let him beat me."
The Sound Of Music and CMA's: "My entire fall has basically been all about "The Sound of Music." That's a wonderful project that I've been asked to be a part of. It's a live musical on TV so there's been a lot of prep work. I've been in New York quite a bit doing run-through's and working on a kind of music that's not exactly the kind of music that I'm use to singing. So it's been a lot of work and it's been really challenging. But I think in the end it's really going to be very rewarding. It's going to be exciting to actually do a musical live on TV. Also the CMA awards have taken up a lot of my time. There are always different kinds of meetings that we have to have as hosts to get ready for that so it's been all about big events for me. So a lot of prep work and then a big night."
Her music playlist: "My workout playlist is a bit random and angry. I like really loud, mad music. Not necessarily stuff I'd listen to getting ready in the morning or driving around in my car. I want something that makes me want to hit something, if that makes any sense at all. I like mad music when I workout."
Carrie's hobbies: "I don't have a lot of hobbies. But I do love sports in general. I love going to sporting events, I don't care what it is. I love the atmosphere. I love the energy. I love seeing people get physical. I love obviously going to hockey games because my husband is a hockey player. Football games, baseball games – it does not matter what it is. I just really enjoy being at a sporting event.
On her eating habits: "I am a vegan but I consider myself to be a practical vegan. If I order something on a menu and it has a sprinkling of cheese on top I'm not going to send it back. I've been vegetarian – no fish no chicken no meat vegetarian – for about a decade now. The vegan thing is something I try to do my best on because it's a cheesy world out there. We recently went to Italy and they put cheese in, on and around everything. So I kind of had to be vegetarian when I was on vacation, and now that I've been back home I've been getting back into my vegan lifestyle. But I'm vegan at home. It's when I go other places that it can be a challenge especially when you don't exactly know what you're ordering. It doesn't say that there's cheese on the menu. But like I said I'm practical vegan."
On receiving compliments: "I've been lucky enough to receive a lot of compliments from people that I really love over the years. But one that I will never forget was when I was having a really bad day at school; I was probably a junior in high school. I came home, and my dad's not really the kind of guy to really give compliments – god love him, I love him – but he's really not a compliment giver, and he told me that I looked "really pretty today." I don't know if he sensed that there was something wrong or that I was having a tough day, but it meant a lot to me and I'll never forget that. I remember what I was wearing and the makeup I had on and he told me that I looked really pretty and it meant a lot."
