The American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP) Nashville office hosted the second annual ASCAP Music City Retreat recently. The three-day songwriting event was held at Blackbird Studios and was funded in part by The ASCAP Foundation Bart Howard Fund. The retreat highlighted the unique talents of the ASCAP songwriting community in Country and Pop formats and brought together some of the hottest ASCAP songwriters based in Nashville, New York, Los Angeles, and across the country to represent each genre.
The songwriters split into small, diverse co-writing groups to work on songs for different artists each day, with the goal of providing a focused setting to create hit songs that could ultimately be recorded and released. The exercise also served to develop long-lasting relationships between the songwriters involved in hopes of future collaborations. For more information about the retreat, visit www.ASCAP.com.
