Urban Cowboy

Variety, Entertainment Weekly, Deadline, and others are reporting that FOX-TV has ordered a pilot for an "Urban Cowboy" television series. The plot would center around a reimagining of the 1980 Paramount movie, which starred John Travolta and Debra Winger. The hour long drama is said to center around star-crossed young lovers named Kyle and Gaby with a music-fueled plot involving the pursuit of dreams, passions, honky tonk line dancing, oil refineries, family legacies, starting over, true love, the American dream, and modern Texas glamour. FOX reportedly has partnered with Robert Evans, who produced the movie, to executive produce the pilot, which was given a script order in May. The film celebrates its 35th anniversary this year, and was recently lauded in a two-hour documentary, "Urban Cowboy: The Rise And Fall Of Gilley's" on CMT-TV.
