Merle Haggard's childhood home has been picked up and moved to a new, permanent location at the Kern Country Museum near Bakersfield, California. Haggard was born and raised in a train boxcar that his father purchased in 1935 for $500. Though the boxcar had greatly deteriorated over the years, it remained occupied up through last year. Haggard, his wife and children, and his 93-year-old sister Lillian were on hand for the relocation ceremony on Wednesday, July 29th. The home was saved thanks to an online campaign, "Help Save Hag's Boxcar," and will be restored to its original condition and put on display at the Museum.
