Sammy Kershaw
May 17, 2010
Big Hit Records artist and Louisiana native Sammy Kershaw has been tapped as the celebrity spokesperson for the non-profit organization, ProtectOurCoastline.org. The organization was formed in response to the devastating oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, and all proceeds will benefit the Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Foundation, in partnership with the Louisiana Seafood Promotion & Marketing Board and the America's WETLAND Foundation.
Louisiana Seafood Promotion & Marketing Board Executive Director Ewell Smith said, "Since the oil spill occurred April 20, 2010, so many have asked how we can help those who are in danger of losing everything because of this disaster. ProtectOurCoastline.org has been formed to be able to get donations directly to the men and women whose livelihoods have been threatened. Seafood is one of Louisiana's most important industries and is vital not only to the fisherman and shrimpers of our state, but to restaurant owners and tourism within a 400 mile radius. We are proud to work with ProtectOurCoastline.org because we know the money is going to help where it is needed most."
Kershaw added: "Having grown up in the coastal parish of Vermilion, I understand the importance of both the seafood industry and the wetlands to Louisiana. The people of my state are resilient and protectourcoastline.org is determined to help those affected by this disaster come back stronger than ever."
Louisiana provides 33% of the country's seafood, making the industry a key component of the state's economy. Persons interested in offering their help should log onto www.ProtectOurCoastline.org to make a donation. You can also text "GULF" to 77007 to receive updates.
