A Tik Tok Grad Party
I don’t want to whine, but I will; my grad party was my cousins coming over for cake. I think they stayed an hour. At some point grad parties became a challenge to outdo your friends and neighbors and peers. For my daughters party I hired Nickleback (please note, Nickleback, NOT Nickelback).
Seemingly everyone did senior salutes. Good.
97.1 ZHT is the first station “on” with awarding not one, but three backyard grad parties with a DJ and food (when it’s safe). 971zht.iheart.com/contests
Furniture
As a reminder, if you need help with Sales stuff, let me know. One of the stations hit me up on Friday looking for ideas to present to a sales client. One of the things that jumped out at me when I looked at the places site, was that they had great outdoor furniture.
This is going to be the summer that everyone goes outside. This contest from Stingray in St. Johns is great and sponsorable. 971zht.iheart.com/contests
But you could also do a “backyard games” theme and maybe do an event where families play in a competition, elimination, croquet tourney that culminates in a badminton competition between the two remaining families?
I also think you’re seeing people begin to rediscover their neighbors. What if you did a Best Neighbor promotion and instead of winning some furniture (or even a grill or beer or meat or whatever) for yourself, you win it for a neighbor who was there for YOU when you had a hard time? Our neighbor and his wife basically saved our house and car when a storage building caught on fire two years ago.
Stayclosecations
Jesse at BIG 98.7 in Fargo was looking for prizes that he could get on trade or for mentions. After this Spring people are going to want to travel but probably not far. In the Midwest, there is literally no better prize than a weekend at “the lake”. This will be large. www.big987.com/socially-distancing
Moments Of Silence
File this for an upcoming tragedy.
Moments of silence can be very very amazing on Radio. I’m serious. I was out at a thing called the Cypress Structure for the one year anniversary of the Loma Prieta earthquake and at 5:01 you could hear an entire city just…go…quiet. And then the church bells started ringing.
A few times after things like mass shootings I’ve heard “in-studio” moments of silence which are really nothing more than dead air.
For the one week anniversary of the 35W bridge collapse I talked the music director at my client into going behind the PD’s back and having someone down the site at 6:02. She called in, everything went silent, she bowed her head because she’s a nice person, a stringer from AP spun and got the shot and it ended up in 280 newspapers. That was the bonus. The payoff was that it gave goosebumps to thousands of people.
