Fundraising
You are undoubtedly going to find yourself in a situation where you’re going to be tasked with raising money for something. That’s great. You should.
Better than “asking” is selling a product or service, like the cupcakes that Cumulus in Albuquerque has done, or a really big car wash they did to raise fund for fire relief.
If you haven’t been to www.omaze.com, do. They get fundraising. They sell celebrity encounters and experiences.

Summer Umbrellas
We’re in the 90 day window for the kick off of Summer and if you had any hope, wish or dream of getting it sponsored, now would be the time to settle on a plan and get it on the streets.
The only real reason to umbrella something together is to give it some cohesiveness. To tie everything that you’re doing into a package. If you know that you’re going to have 100 bikes to give away, as opposed to a seemingly random series of giveaway, bundle it under “Power 96’s Summer Without Training Wheels.” Boom.
The Summer Of 10,000 Tickets was done in the Twin Cities in 2002 because they had literally a million concerts coming through and Minnesota is the Land Of 10,000 Lakes. Double boom.
“The 108 Days Of Summer” always just seemed like a Nancy Reagan slogan.
So let’s start, shall we?
Second Chance Summer If you feel confident that enough fun opportunities are going to be back, then do this as the chance to do all those things you missed LAST Summer.
Open For Summer Same thing: declare the market officially open for Summer.
Grand Reopening Celebrate as all of the entities and experiences (hopefully) reopen. You could actually really have fun with a ribbon cutting at 5 pm on the Friday of Memorial Day Weekend.
All Access Already in the works at a station that will be awarding access to all of the fun stuff happening in and around their market.
The FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out) Summer
Summer Vacation What do people call the period between May and September? “Summer Vacation”. So some of the stations have used that, ie: “Hot 93.5’s Summer Vacation”. ‘OMC in Detroit actually went and got a Wagon Queen Family Truckster with luggage on the roof as their station vehicle.
FML One of the stations in Albany did “Free Music Live” when they had a TON of concert tickets, and it was the FML Summer.
Summer Of 10,000 Parties Power 96 in Miami this. Clubs, shows, barbecues….everything they did on the streets was a party.
Really Sticky Doing stickers? This going to be your focus? “The Summer Of The Big Stick” was used by KLUC in Las Vegas and sounded great. Also done by ZFX in Fayetteville.
The Topless Summer It’s like The Summer Of 10,000 Tickets, inching glacier-like towards becoming a cliché. But if you have a convertible and if it hasn’t been done in your market, then have at it, like NOW in SFO the last few summers. But, seriously, if you’re going to use this umbrella, have some fun with it. It doesn’t need to be dirty but when you say “topless”, no one thinks of a convertible.
Red, Wet & Blue One of the US stations is going to do “Red, Wet & Blue” and all their contesting and street level stuff will be focused on beaches and waterparks and giving away swimsuits and jetskis.
Beat The Heat as done by The Boxx in Houston, was geared at helping the audience escape Hiroshima-like temps at waterparks and movie theaters and beaches.
The Big Damn Summer Power in Miami did this. Everything they did? Was big.
BFS I also like “BFS” as a moniker. Hot in Memphis, in ‘13, did “HFS”: Hot Flippin’ Summer
SPF WOW Country in Boise did “SPF 104.3” in ’09. Summer Prize Fun with “the owners’ daughter’s Jamaican boyfriend Dready D” as the voice for everything. CBS used SPF for pool parties in Las Vegas..
Because It Sounds Bigger Take your dial position and multiply it by 24. The 2548 Hours Of Summer?
Death, Injury, Blood and Pain, Mohawk Mohawk Win Again!!! Much like imaging the summer as a club, what about a camp? Camp 103.5 Kiss-FM? Your jocks are counselors and we have a very busy day of recreation planned for you.
The Totally Pumped Summer Gas? Some stations have made that the focus.
(Stations) Summer Intervention What if you did Because without the intervention of the station and your friends and family, it would be just another summer sitting inside eating Cheetos and playing Minecraft.
Twitter Away The Summer That could be an umbrella if you think about it. Because the Summer is about finding stuff to do. Every day is a mini-vacation. Every weekend is Spring Break. What’s the next level up from…ugh…a Calendar Of Events? A constant stream of info, from the station, and the listeners, about what’s happening in the community. Beach conditions. Block parties. Free events. Etc.
OMG Hot in Greenville did the OMG It’s Hot umbrella, because it WAS.
Best Summer Ever Y-94 has done this with jet skis to give away.
Inflatable Summer Done by Z-90 in San Diego when they did lots of inflatable pool and beach toys. It sounds stupid but THEY NAILED it. They also got enough women’s swimwear to do three weekend giveaways.
Summer AF is making its debut in 2021. Or at least that’s the plan.
iSummer Hot in Ottawa did One Tweet Summer and did treasure hunts with tweeted clues leading people to the daily tickets. One of the OM’s had this idea for an umbrella. How about “iSummer” for the name? :
We arm the summer team with iphones (from sponsor) and all summer they take cool pics of events and listeners and post em on facebook/twitter/Instagram.
We promo it on air but the majority of their communicating where they are, what you can win is posted on our social media.
