Read a very compelling article that the fees that labels want to begin charging radio to play their music is being looks at some as "reverse payola" -- check this article out! http://bloggeddown1.wordpress.com/2010/02/23/is-the-radio-performance-tax-reverse-payola/ Talk about labels biting the hand ...

Turkey Day At The Station

Thanksgiving, when you are single and in radio is always interesting. I recall as a baby DJ -- old school in the 70s -- working extra shifts on Thanksgiving so that the fulltimers could enjoy the day with the family -- translation: the PD and the MD wanted off. Ahhhhhhhhhhhh the smell of KFC in the ...

Re: HotTalkLA.com tearing it up!

Now this is something everyone can get into -- and they don't need a special radio with HD or XM/Sirius. WiFi and WiMax are coming to cars! It will be the new delivery platform for radio -- not the towers. Adventurous broadcasters like those on HotTalkLA.com will reap the rewards -- the rest will fa...

KLOS Bores Me To Tears

Mark & Brian are soooooooooooooo damn funny -- love them. But I am so over the same freakin' worn out Classic Rock stuff. I've long called it the music of my older brother's life -- soon it's gonna be the music of my Grand Dad's life! No offense to anyone at the station, but I wanna drive a Bic pen ...

Re: Showing your team what you've got!

I just checked out Joe GM AllAccess.com/joe-gm and found some pretty interesting things there. Talked about sales and programming and how they need to come together. About damn time someone did that!

Re: Song Tagging!

Ever seen the iPhone App, SHAZAM? Hold up to a radio, it is identified, and you can buy it. There's your tagging system through terrestrial radio. No HD needed. Would be nice to see someone put out a radio that has a button on the box and the steering wheel that says "buy it" -- downloads to a centr...

Re: Should the Q3 numbers have us worried?

Radio is just a microcosm of the rest of the economy -- the correction is on. And it will ripple for years yet. Not a doom and gloom but it's reality for 95% of all Americans -- we will work harder and longer to achieve what we had just 5 years ago. Getter done or get out -- just make the best of ev...

Party 87.7

WPTY does pretty well out in Long Island for a local station. Can the music and vibe from Suffolk County translate to Party 87.7? Vic Latino knows NYC -- but so did Joel Salkowitz.

Will the signal limitations doom this station to only limited success?

Re: Groove

It's not the same old thing, til ya hear the same stuff over and over. The library sounds like it's 150 titles deep. What's interesting is that the songs that make up the core of GROOVE 105.7 are NOT from the 404 -- they are titles from the 212 or the 305. Look on Mediabase -- no one in the market p...

Harker Research Compares Jerry Del Colliano To Joe McCarthy

I've heard of flame wars on forums but Harker Research is jumping on Inside Music Media blogger Jerry Del Colliano about his daily content. Without comment one way or the other, this is some pretty amazing reading: http://harkerresearch.typepad.com/radioinsights/2009/10/jerry-del-colliano-joe-mccart...
