Re: Are OLDIES really bad (dead)?

I got told more than once that "the music doesn't matter". That it was the "personalities" that would draw and keep the listeners. At the same time, they were relying on voice tracking or inexperienced jocks under severe restrictions. The music does matter on a music station. But listeners want a re...

Re: Are OLDIES really bad (dead)?

Classic Rock used to be about the deep cuts, celebrating the full spectrum talent of their genre and demonstrating why the stuff was indeed classic. But for awhile, some programmers got the idea that folks just wanted to hear the "hits". Some classic rock stations you could almost set your watch as ...

Update....

Winterwest was kind enough to let us know what was going on with him. I'm also a long time poster here. I think I've been here close to twenty years. My, how the time has flown. In that time, I've gone from a struggling part timer and college student to military broadcaster who did radio and televis...

Re: And The Kid Said....

I had a similar experience at a big chain electronics store when I was looking for radios for my post-Army apartment. I did find a decent combo set that has good sound, gets AM and FM and plays CDs as well as MP3s. Also, found clock radios. But getting JUST a radio? You have to search around a bit. ...

Re: Do we REALLY not know what's wrong?

Praise the Lord for your recovery, Winterwest. Good to have you still with us. And you are right. If radio is not front and center with "social media" serving to promote it, not the other way around...that is a problem.

Re: The trend is changing, what do you think it will change

Radio stations have been and should be that voice in their community, the media johnny on the spot, with you in the moment. They can do that like no other media. That is the only thing that w...

Excellent, the5. Great reminder of both the essentials of great radio and the obstacles that have stood in the way of making in for the past decade.

But I think we will emerge from that sooner or later.

Re: So, this is what it's come to...

Well written, WW. Though I like how you allow for optimism and possibility, I find myself somehow even more positive. Call it intuition, call if faith, call it the model the big boys trying to create on borrowed time, continuing to fail... ...real radio will be back. In fact, it is out there, just h...
