Talent vacation in morning drive under PPM

Under PPM listeners usually consume their favorite stations in multiple short duration chunks. When the morning show host is away the talent piece is best handled by the support people on the morning show. They simply deliver an audience worthy show and make no apologies. That way it sounds normal.

Engaged Listening

Under PPM it is possible for someone to be exposed to an encoded signal and that station get credit without the person carrying the meter ever even being aware of the station. Unintended listening is a new factor that Urban radio has to understand and overcome.

Is PPM Really Passive?

Passive connotes that participants are somehow uninvolved in the process. But they have to remember to carry the meter, keep it in motion and dock it. So PPM is really passive, but intrusive.

According to a number of recent research studies, PPM panelists seemingly wake up later or don't un-dock their meters as early as earlier diary-keepers did.

Evolving Smooth Jazz Formats

There is a trend away from what had been traditional smooth jazz formats. Many stations are exploring what has recently happened with KTWV in LA - eliminating the word jazz and movoing away from Kenny G instrumentals and more toward Urban AC vocals.
