I kid you not...I saw an ad for a California radio talk host position (NOT in All Access) that actually said, (direct quotes) "must be a Conservative...Talk radio experience preferred but not required.."

They no longer even bother to pretend that quality has anything to do with it. You don't have to be any good. Just able to memorize the correct half dozen or so talking points. And some people think that's how you run a business.

Realize that's just an opening qualifier. Which seems to have eliminated your interest. Seems it worked as intended.

In conservative talk radio there is currently a very little light at the end of the tunnel. Many satellite syndicated shows are ending. Not the big names but smaller shows. Why? Age of the host, they're tapping out because of subject boredom, their format is out of date. The list is long.

In this week, I lost 5 hours of syndicated weekend shows and had to scramble to fill the spots. The list of shows to replace them with is very small. I am not the only station having this problem. Many other stations are having this issue too.

Your post doesn't really shock me. thanks for sharing.

I know the position you're referring to. The guy being replaced wasn't a radio guy either. This has nothing to do with political bent and everything to do with the obsession with hiring name brand people (bloggers, TV personalities, etc) instead of radio people.

And considering the size of the market, I guarantee they're not paying what they should. These are all more important things than you not getting a gig because your political beliefs make you unemployable in talk radio.
