Does anybody else sense that in the sad state of affairs of modern rock and a lot of CHR that classic rock as a format is really making a move upward? I've noticed in several of the ratings I've seen lately from various markets that classic rock stations are doing well and even a #1 in Spokane :)

Thoughts??

Not here in the DC / Baltimore markets - But it could be because the local Classic Rock stations are still playing only the major hits and artists like Bryan Adams and John Melloncamp who were really more pop than rock. I think if they went a notch down on what was a "hit" to include more songs that make a listener go "wow - I haven't heard that in years", they might be able to start gaining traction here. I just heard "Stairway" on the DC classic rocker and flipped to the Baltimore one and heard "Freebird". Both songs have become a joke of sorts and these stations don't seem to understand that. I grew up with that music and along with those songs, don't ever want to hear "Turn the page", "Another One Bits The Dust", "Lady", "Smoke On The Water", "Cold as ice", "I love Rock 'n Roll", or "Small Town" ever again. Those songs are played at least once a day though.

As a Hard Rock music fan.. i did a study of people who mainly listen to Classic Rock Stations.. as a result I am starting my own programming to sell to Classic Rock stations...
I don't mean to sound rude but My take is the only reason Classic Rock is popular is there is nothing else on they like to hear. Every body I know and studied are very very TIRED Of classic Rock radio. People not technically advanced to play their ipod -phone streaming..(not perfect either lots of drawbacks) they will they listen to FM on way home from work but dont get fooled that they like it...they actually hate Terrestrial Classic Rock radio, all the silly DJ Personalities, and advertisements radio My take also is opposite of what the industry pros said at a conference I went to lately. I believe people who listen to classic rock want to hear NEW good music but not just what the Active Stations re belting it out it needs to be mixed ...Hard Rockers don't learn of new music via Terrestrial Radio at least in Southern Calfornia .. Classic Rock stations should play deeper catalog classic rock songs not the same tired huge hits people have heard for 20 years.....Best kept secret for me for Classic Rock STations.. you have so many other great songs on these albums you keep playing the same song over and over.. mix it up abit.. Mix i some "carefully chosen" new hard rock... Ever wonder why CHR is popular.. cause its new and they basically copy classic rock songwriting styles just w new musical wrappings.. Rockers listen to CHr and classic rock but would prefer to listen new heavier music is my humble view.. I have some programming ideas to supplement your classic rock station .. than you test if your listeners agree w me :)

BTW feed back on my ID at my link would be appreciated..
Would appreciate a referral to a good Imaging vender who knows Hard Rock Metal to improve o the current ID at the site..
it is a weak effort but all i have now
Wont start publishing station until i can improve that
