Is it over for Smooth jazz formatted station based on what number of companies that have switched to other formats because of the failure of the format in many PPM markets? and does this represent an opportunity for urban AC sations
KTWV The Wave was hit hard by the ppm. That’s the reason KTWV is now a rhythmic AC and playing more R&B currents and old school. I’m really enjoying the new sound of The Wave.
Smooth Jazz format died long time ago. As a radio online streaming service myself I used to have a smooth jazz format for years and it was pretty cool back then. It was a novelty genre that attracted listeners from all over the world but as you mentioned PPM probably had a big impact in the states and the audience completely disappeared. As a result many broadcasters (I include myself) turned to RnB or Urban formats. I'm not sure if the format will ever have a revival.
