Hey guys! What are your thoughts about the Top 40 today? :?:

In my opinion, songs like Wonder by Shawn Mendes, Midnight Sky by Miley Cyrus and cardigan by Taylor Swift are just what we need! Each one of them sounds so fresh, they are not generic at all and I really appreciate that. One song I don't like very much is Dynamite, the beat it's interesting and fun but their voices are very autotuned, it bothers me... :|
Also, have you heard Lana Del Rey's new single, Let Me Love You Like A Woman? Its amazing, I don't know why she didn't send it to the radios...

Anyways! Tell me what you think and what are your favorite songs :D

Somehow I haven't heard a single one of my favorite songs on the radio. I found these performers and these songs on YouTube. Therefore, there is no need to talk about tops and charts. Everyone has different tastes and preferences.

There is some really good music at Top 40 right now. However, Top 40 has too much focus on songs that have been in regular/heavy rotation for months which, for me, makes the format boring. Consequently, I listen a lot less. There is plenty of new music which Top 40 is ignoring and I think the listeners would be better served by playing more of that and dropping the stuff that is 6 - 12 months old. Top 40 is no longer a current and new music format and hasn't been for some time. Top 40 programmers and music directors need to become more adventurous.

I agree with stormin-norman; too many stations keep songs in power rotation way too long. One example is the Weeknd's "Blinding Lights". Great song, but this is its 45th week on the Mediabase Top 40 chart, and it is still in the top 10. Really?

One station that tweaked their format earlier this year was SiriusXM Hits 1 [yes I am a subscriber]. They cut their weekly countdown from 45 to 30, but it was a big improvement. Why? Because, prior to the revamp, so many of the ranked songs were ones that had been around for months.

The countdown now features a larger percentage of newer songs, and they are adventurous in that they add new songs right away. In recent weeks, I have heard new songs quickly added to the countdown; in the past most new songs lingered in "HitBound" for weeks before finally being added to the ranked list.

Seriously what's going on with CHR, what are radio programmers looking for to put the same damn songs on Power Rotation for months? How overplayed the top songs have become it just doesn't make sense to me now, it's ridiculous and unbereable at this point. I know COVID-19 had something to do with it becuase budgets got cut and research is limited sicne then, but c'mon, are they afraid to play "fresh new" songs because they're not clicking with the public? They're even ignoring songs getting the best callouts according to Mediabase National Callout Research (Come & Go and Be Like That) while playing some random stuff which is neither even doing good on other metric nor having good response (ily (i love you baby)) and the top song right now has the worst callout response (Savage Love). I don't understand what's going on with the format, very unfortunate.
