I served this country for a GM's right to refuse me a job!
I served this country for a GM's right to refuse me a job!
There are some of us who remain out of work because of misinformation being spread about me and others by stations a few of us used to work for. I believe there is collusion going on and these stations just can't tell the truth and ruin careers unjustly, especially when I've done nothing wrong. I've been out of work a long time and have been trying to land work even at McDonalds. Hell at this point if Al Qaida had a radio station and they gave me a chance I'd take it! I served this country and can't even be thanked in the form of a job interview. There are no patriotic station GM's left to honor us veterans with job offers. We fought for this country for their right to refuse us work! That's all I'm going to say at this point.
Re: I served this country for a GM's right to refuse me a job!
Screw You! I don't need therapy! What is needed is for the stations to be EOE as the federal law is supposed to be. Equal Opportunity and they haven't been. These stations have been dishonest and are breaking the law for not even granting an interview. An attorney in California by the name of Shapiro is looking over potential cases and says I have a hell of a case and we may be filing the first of many suits very soon! Then we'll see what will happens!
Good luck Halfwit!

I would find it hard to hire you based on your attitude. I would consider myself lucky to pass up an interview in your current state of thought. This industry is very hard and not for people who get their feelings hurt easily. At 40 you should know that cynicism gets you nowhere. Try to change your perception of the industry and see if it helps you getting that radio gig.
I wish you the best of luck.

You should be ashamed to attempt to use your service as some kind of wedge. Your service should open the door, it's no guarantee if you're not talented enough to get the nod or even an interview.

Let me see if I've got this right; you feel like you're automatically entitled to a job at a radio station just because you served in the military? If you're not qualified, or if there's someone out there with better talent and availability, then don't expect to get the job. Suing people won't get you anywhere closer to getting you a job, it'll only get you shunned by the industry. Seriously; get a job on your skills in the market, not your service record in the armed forces.

Post a link to an air check.
When a station posts Equal Opportunity It should be EEO
I've taken a lot of heat for my posts and with my experience I should at least be given an interview
before being declined an equal opportunity period! It is against the law to discriminate based on age, sex, military status, whatever, Equal Opportunity is supposed to be Equal Opportunity.
One station I am to name now is Midwest Family Broadcasting out of Wisconsin who discriminates based on age and other factors.
I've applied Three times and this time they wouldn't accept my cover letter. I've done nothing to these people and now, it's time to name and shame. If they don't want to hire they shouldn't post their opening here.
I will name these so called companies and call them out for who they are. Not equal opportunity employers and you should stay away from them until they offer at least an interview. It's not going to hurt them and it would be in compliance with the law. I know I am well qualified and a lot of these people want to be cheap or pay the kids coming out of college and the industry is supposed to be public service. Public service would be to alllow those of us out of work to get an equal opportunity to work.

I can tell you they're not paying the kids out of college. I can promise you that. FYI, it's a business. Yes, public service gets thrown in on occasion, but not enough to call it that.

I normally do not post in here, but I decided to take a look to see who's bitching about what and I came across your posting about not getting an interview. The fact that you served in the military (and thank you for your service) I too have served in the military and fought 2 wars. I never once used my military experience as a way to get my foot in the door at ANY job, and neither should you. Remember, by being in the military you fought for the right to have these people turn you down. It's their right to do so, it's called FREEDOM..remember you help fight for that. The fact that you said you would take a job with Al-Qaeda shows me you are no more American then they are. How dare you even jokingly say that you would work for an organization that has taken your brothers and sisters lives?
Grow up, get real and understand what it's like to be an American and what FREEDOM really means. FREEDOM that I help fight for gave me the right to post this. If you can't get a job in the business get one somewhere else, no one owes you anything.

Wow, Great Posts. One of the things that I would like to point out is this: The number of jobs in Radio is getting smaller and the number of people who want those jobs are greating bigger. Just look at the non-sales job postings and the number of views. most have near 1000 views. If 10 percent sent a resume, tape and cover letter the person getting them will spent about 20 second listening to the MP3 or tape or REEL (that's for the old guys). During that 20 seconds scans the resume or cover letter. Most will see the misspelled words and drop it into file 13. The one or two that they decide to interview are the ones with the luck that day. Military service is great but it will not get you an interview.
A GREAT Tape, that knockes them out in the first 20 seconds. A CLEAN resume, NO misspelled words, Keep It Simple Format. Cover Letter with a recommendation from someone they know.
To get an interview, They need to know you or know someone that knows you.
Remember: it's not what you know, but who you know and who will go to bat for you.
Make a website, put some GREAT Audio on it. Make it EASY to USE. Send out a link.
Good Luck.
