All I know is that when I was acting, if they were looking for a thin, short, black woman, I wasn't getting the part...

i've NEVER seen a Job posting outside of radio where someone was requesting a "Gender Specific" or race or age applicant. GOOD REASON for it....IT'S DISCRIMINATION AND ITS ILLEGAL!

If it's discrimination against men, especially White men, then it's OK. I've heard this "well we're looking for a qualified minority" or "we're looking for a female" so many times, it isn't funny.

Check out http://www.actorsaccess.com. That's all you will see and it IS NOT illegal (reference my earlier post regarding section "E" of the EEO statute). On Actors Access they post roles that are being cast for commercials, plays, films and "shows."

Even though it may be the bottom rung of the entertainment ladder, radio is still show biz and a lot of people still do radio "shows." If a radio show needs a female voice to balance out the male host, sports guy and stunt boy, what's the problem? Casting "roles" on "shows." That's all they're doing.

Radio is part of the entertainment industry. Rather than continue to rely on your own personal interpretation of the employment statutes, perhaps it wouldn't be a bad idea to contact an entertainment lawyer to have your concerns addressed. If a radio personality can be a member of AFTRA, then they are definately under that umbrella.

Hey Joel...got any lawyer friends who'd like to weigh in? Could be an eye opener.

Hilarious. Radio is entertainment. Each station is aimed at a specific demographic. Typecasting is necessary to deliver those demographics.

Yeah, just sour grapes...I agree with the guy who said its CASTING for a role. There should not even BE laws that say radio, tv, film, etc...cannot hire based on gender. OF COURSE, TALENT is the key, but some positions REQUIRE a female when programming a radio station, based on research and theory.
and for you to say its NOT the movies, so that doesnt count, means you just dont GET it, and I would guess THAT's why you are on the beach, NOT your gender.
Sorry. No one ever said the world was....'fair'.
