Is it just me or does HD radio sound awful?

Is it just me or does HD radio sound awful?
Not sure if this belongs in the mazda subreddit but here goes...
I have a 2016 CX-5. Its great. I love the car. One thing that annoys me is the HD radio. A few stations I listen to near me support it but they sound a lot worse than standard FM radio stations. I noticed it more recently after a few stations changed formats and there were more than one alt-rock stations in the area. It sounds metallic and has no low end. I feel like the standard FM radio sounds much better. Is it just me?
