KMZU “The Farm,” a 100,000-watt station in central Missouri, is seeking an individual who has great news chops, a strong understanding of government and courts, and is a constant consumer of news and trends. This individual must be adept in teaching and leading a 24/7 broadcast news team. The News Director must excel in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

The ideal candidate is a superb journalist AND experienced manager with great organizational skills and strong work ethic. It’s vital this person has editorial vision, strategies and passion to cover rural Missouri and its communities. Working knowledge in agri-business and farm life a BIG plus.

The News Director will drive the daily reporting of broadcasts and website stories. The News Director will ensure that news coverage and public affairs programming reflect regional interests and issues, done in an unbiased journalistic viewpoint.

The News Director manages an around-the-clock team of reporters and announcers while providing journalistic guidance, coordination, training and management. This individual also coordinates logistics, planning, strategy and scheduling of staff.

• Lead and manage the direction of the KMZU News Department staff and its content
• Coordinate and schedule staff, both on air and in the field
• Coordinate coverage of news event, like multi-county election coverage
• Support and train staff in script and copy writing, AP style, interviewing, broadcasting, audio editing
• Oversee, develop and produce news and pubic affairs programming
• Build KMZU brand and news content on its website and social media sites, as well as its stations KMZU, KRLI and KROL
• Develop partnerships and relationships with government and school officials and community members
• A minimum of 3 years of related newsroom and/or broadcast news media experience (reporting, editorial, production)
• At least 2 years of experience in either training, managing or supervising staff
• Excellent interviewing skills that are personable, inquisitive and relevant
• Superb verbal and written communication skills
• Highly proficient editorial and broadcast skills, able to train others
• Adept in Adobe Audition and other broadcast equipment
• Proficient in Google, WordPress, Outlook email, Excel
• A dogged researcher of news and trends
• Skilled in implementing, managing online and social media sites
• Ability to efficiently carry out multiple activities and responsibilities
• Proven management experience with ability to work collaboratively with staff from various backgrounds and ages
• Must be flexible to work beyond a regular schedule for special news or community events
