1) How would you describe your first radio gig?
Excitingly boring. I was running the board for an Oldies program that aired Saturday nights at a heritage station in the Wilmington market. I got to do the weather once an hour. For 30 seconds an hour, I was on top of the world!
2) What led you to a career in radio?
In college, I had decided that broadcasting was for me, but was unsure of what avenue to pursue: TV or radio? After interning at KYW-TV 3 in Philadelphia, I interviewed at Star 104.5 FM, also in Philadelphia, for a production intern position. Before I even spoke to the Production Director, he asked me to have a seat while he cut a spot that 'had to go on the air right away.' As I watched him voice and produce the commercial, it hit me. THIS is what I want to do. RADIO!
3) What is your favorite part of the job?
The hours. I mean who doesn't love getting up at 3am every day?!?! And let's not forget the vision of a co-host I have, Joe Alan. It really doesn't get any better.
4) What is the most challenging part of the job?
The hours. But in all fairness, I have always considered myself extremely lucky and blessed to be working at a job I love. If the thing I find most challenging is my morning alarm, then I've tackled the worst part of my day with the first thing I've done...which is throw that alarm across the room!!!
5) What's one thing that would surprise many people to learn about you?
How much I am in love with Joe Alan, my co-host.
6) If you could add one full-time position to your budget right now, what would it be?
Morning Show Producer. Hands down.
7) Who would be a "dream guest" to have on your show?
William Hung....or Mariah Carey.
8) What was your favorite station to listen to when you were a kid?
It's a tie between FM 97 WLAN out of Lancaster, PA, or Y102 WRFY out of Reading, PA.
9) What is it about our industry that keeps you wanting to do it for a living?
I get to laugh and be creative every day. No day is the same and I get to meet new and interesting people all of the time. And sometimes we get free food. And remember, there's Joe Alan.
10) What is the one truth that has held constant throughout your career?
I have always loved my job, no matter the time slot. And coffee is my best friend, next to wine, of course.
Bonus Questions
What did you want to be when you were growing up?
A bus driver. Don't judge.
