Please outline your radio career so far:
KXCR/El Paso, TX (Public Radio) - 1992
KTSM/El Paso, TX - 1993-1998
KOTK/Portland, OR - 1998- 2003
KSII/El Paso, TX - 2004-Present1) What Got You Interested In Radio?
One Sunday afternoon a friend of mine and I where driving around town listening to our local public radio station (at the time they played great underground College music). There was an announcement saying that any person interesting in volunteering should stop by and fill in an application. My friend then turned the car around and said, "You have a BIG mouth, you'd be great at that!" And she was right, 16 years later I'm still here! I guess I owe her big!
2) What was your favorite station to listen to when you were a kid?
I recall listening to Casey Kasem (loved him even more when I found out he was the voice behind Scooby Doo and Shaggy!), Shadow Stevens, (I loved him and the "Federated Commercials). Oh...and Rick Dees! How I could forget him?
3) How would you describe the music and imaging on your station?
I often refer to Kiss as the VH1 of MTV when they both played music. But, we offer something for everyone.
4) How much time do you spend surfing the net looking for show-prep material?
Does this include my time on Perez Hilton? Well, if it does, then a damn long time! Especially, when you consider that after Perez, you have TMZ, WWTDD, People...I could go on. Basically, the audience knows what's available out there, and you just gotta keep up.
5) How do you keep tabs on the competition? When your competition attacks you on the air, how do you react?
I have voodoo dolls that I refer to when I feel I need to be avenged. No, not really.
I pretty much ignore it all. There's no room for haters on this party of one!
6) Your thoughts on Syndication and Voice-Tracking?
It's ok. I do fully understand its implementation, but you can't really reach out and touch someone when you're not really there.
7) How do you stay in touch with the latest music trends?
I read everything, and I ask everyone what they're listening to. You've got to stay connected. Otherwise you get so behind you won't know what the hell is going on. After that, frustration will seep in...followed by death! There's nothing left...poof!
8) How do you feel terrestrial radio competes with the satellite radio and Internet these days?
It's definitely an on-going competition. But the real gem in terrestrial radio is the
connection the listener has with its community verses the impersonality of the others.
9) What singer/performer/artist really inspires you and why?
Bono & U2. They are the beginning and the end for me. The lyrics and the music got me through the craziest moments in my life.
10) Who is your best friend in the business?
My best friend (the Devil) is none other than Ray Monroe, A/E and on air personality for our sister station KLAQ in El Paso.
Bonus Questions
1) What was the first song or full-length release you purchased?
That would be Madonna's "Like a Virgin" on vinyl back in '83. But, don't be so quick to judge my friend. That was followed by Ozzy's Bark at the Moon!
I was a confused child still trying to find my way.
2) How did you get your on-air name?
I used my real name because I suffer from short term memory loss and at the age of 33, I am convinced that I am in the early stages of Alzheimer's. Thus, I stuck with something I could remember.
3) Who is your favorite air personality not on your staff?
There's this guy on a Spanish station in town. Call me a weirdo, but I listen solely because I think he has the sexiest voice.
