1) What led you to a career in radio? Was there a defining moment, which made you realize "this is it"?
As far back as I can remember I've always wanted to be on the radio. When I was nine, I remember recording myself trying to be a DJ. I'd also use my dad's old stereo to play music in the background.
2) What was your first job in radio? Early influences?
My first job was at KMJK, which no longer exists. They hired me out of my internship. After we were all let go I found a place at Mix.
3) What was the first song or full-length release you purchased?
Tears for Fears, "Songs from the Big Chair."
4) How often do you do remotes and which work best for the station?
I have one a week. It's a live dance party from a club in Scottsdale called "Anderson's 5th Estate." The great thing about this gig is that it's been going for over five years. Mix 969 is the only station in the Phoenix area that can say that. I started out running the board for the broadcast, to being the remote tech, to now being the talent.
5) Please describe the best or worst promotion you've ever been part of?
The best promotion had to have been the "MIX 969 $10,000 Fugitive." Listeners had to figure out who the fugitive was based on clues given on the air. It was the most exhausting and most fun at the same time.
6) Have you explored launching an HD Radio channel?
We already have. It's called Rock @ Random.
7) Who is your favorite air personality not on your staff?
Super Snake with our sister station KZZP (104.7 Kiss FM).
8) As you look back over your career ... any regrets? Missed opportunities?
No regrets. Every major opportunity I've ever had came from right here at Mix 969. Not many people in this business can say they've stayed with the same station for six-years and moved up from remote tech to MD.
9) Favorite artist you have met?
Scott Stapp. One of the coolest guys I ever met. Signed an autograph for my mom.
10) What is the one truth that has held constant throughout your career?
Busting your @$$ pays off!
Bonus Questions
1) Fill in the blank: I can't make it through the day without _________?
Coffee.
2) Do you have any good stalker stories? Misty requests? "Fatal Attractions?"
Had a listener that found my cell phone number. She showed up at my club gig and I grabbed her arm, dragged her through the dance floor, kicked the front doors open and threw her out.
