10 Questions with ... Madison James

Please outline your radio career so far:

WZDQ- Middays and Nights, WHHM-Middays, WHZT - Middays, WBTS- Part-time, WALR- Part-time, Present: WMXB- MD/Middays.

1) What was your first job in radio? Early influences?

Do you call it job if you do it for free? My first job was at a College Radio Station

2) What career path would you be following had it not been for this industry?

I was headed down the path of being a Sports Psychologist. I know some of you are puzzled, but sports were a big part of my life.

3) If you are wearing more hats this year than last, what area is suffering and how are you handling that?

Taking on the new role of MD, my brain is suffering right now. I'm still working on trying to fix that.

4) Tell us what music we would find on your I-Pod right now and what is it you enjoy about that particular selection?

T-Pain, Kanye West, Plain White T's, Fallout Boy, Nelly Furtado, T.I., Fergie. Hey when I'm at the gym I need music that will push me through my workout!

5) What do you like best about working in this format?

In my new format, I love the fact I'm not in the clubs anymore. It's great money, but it's the same thing every night.

6) What impact will the firing of Talk show Host Imus have on radio and the media in general?

Not much since he is now on his way to being back on the air. No matter what the risk there will always be some idiot that will say something dumb no matter who it offends.

7) What was the biggest gaffe you've made on air? (dead air ... forget a mic was still on ... etc.)

Hmmmm... I've got two:

1. Having a full conversation with a listener with the mic on.

2. I think we have all done this at one time or another, I said the wrong station on the air and quickly cut the mic.

8) Do you have any good stalker stories? Misty requests? "Fatal Attractions?"

Oh yeah! I had one stalker (I mean listener) that had tracked me down from Tennessee to Greenville, SC, and was calling the office trying to get in contact with me. She claimed that she was related to me and needed to talk to me really bad. Oh, I forgot to mention that the woman had moved and was living in Washington State. Got to love the Internet.

9) Most of us have known or even worked for a "colorful" owner/GM/air talent. Care to share a story? (The names can be changed to protect the innocent).

I would love to share a story, but they might read this. But I knew of one person that worked for a GM that had cameras in their office, so the GM knew when you were coming and going. So if they just saw you walk in the door and wanted to talk to you they would just wait until you were about to leave, and then page for you to come to his office.

10) What is the one truth that has held constant throughout your career?

Be yourself. Don't try to be like someone else.

1) How did you get your on-air name?

It came to me in a vision! LOL!

2) Fill in the blank: I can't make it through the day without _________?

My Crystal Light. It's like drinking water, but it tastes like Kool-Aid.

3) You just won the lotto and you have your boss on the line. What's the first thing that you would say?

I'm Rich B*&%h! But I'm still coming to work!
