1) What was your first job in radio? The AAA Road Network. Early influences?
Mickey Shore, Lee Allen, Dave Prince, Marc Avery, Don Zee, Frantic Ernie Durham, J.P. McCarthy, Joe Wade Formicola, Chuck Santoni, John Kay and most of all Dick Kernen
2) What led you to a career in radio?
Everybody told me I had a really good voice. Was there a defining moment, which made you realize "this is it"? I was doing yard work one day while listing to the radio. I heard a spot for the Specs Howard School Of Broadcast Arts and the rest is history.
3) What makes your station or market unique? How does this compare to other markets or stations you have worked at?
JILL-FM is the first station to use the concept of the JACK format aimed at women. This station is jock-less; a trend I hope doesn't last.
4) How have the recent FCC regulations impacted the way you program your music and the station's dialogue on the air? What are your feelings about these recent changes?
The FCC managed to get BLUE jocks like HOWARD off the airwaves and into outer space. That in my book is a good thing, morally speaking.
.
5) Where do you see the industry and yourself five years from now?
Gone to hell in a corporate hand basket but I'll be retired.
6) Who is your favorite air personality not on your staff?
Lee "Hacksaw" Hamilton, afternoon sports mouth on 570 AM in Los Angeles.
7) How do you feel terrestrial radio competes with the satellite radio and Internet these days?
It's a matter of taste and economics. Nothing more.
8) What's the best concert you've been to so far this year and why?
Benise : His full name is Ron Benise and he blends fiery Spanish Flamenco melodies with exotic rhythms to create a beautiful tapestry of emotions from the heart. His concert was intimate, with costumed dancers and a trapeze act. The entertainment was off the page!
9) What is the one truth that has held constant throughout your career?
Something BARRY MARDIT, my former PD at W4 COUNTRY/DETROIT told me: There are two kinds of people in radio: "Those in favor, and those out of favor."
10) What was the biggest gaffe you've made on air? (dead air ... forget a mic was still on ... etc.)
I was interviewing the voice of MICKEY MOUSE at DISNEYWORLD. I was so accustomed to interviewing real people that I read his DISNEY name-tag, and said something like, " So tell me Wayne, how long have you been..." the DISNEY rep went nuts and terminated the interview. Oops!
