BRIEF CAREER SYNOPSIS:
I interned in Charlotte at Kiss 95.1 before moving to Memphis TN where I did mornings on Q107.5 from 2012-2020. I moved onward to Portland OR where I am the anchor on Liz and Mike in the morning on 105.1 The Buzz since 2020.
1. What got you into radio?
I was always the bullied kid and I would listen to the radio on my way into school and they always sounded like they were having so much fun. So I decided I wanted to be that person. That little bit of sunshine for someone heading somewhere they hate.
2. What did you dream of becoming when you were a kid?
Morning Radio DJ or Marine Biologist like every girl in the 90's who loved Lisa Frank.
3. Has the COVID-19 pandemic taught you anything about yourself?
Prioritize family. I lost my sister in 2020 to Covid and it changed me as a person. Now family is always first.
4. How does one get from Locust and Oakboro, NC to Portland, OR?
I'm still not sure but I went from a town with one stoplight all the way to Portland with thousands! Surprisingly, there are just as many people raising chickens in Portland as there were out in the country growing up in NC.
5. What would probably surprise most people about Portland?
The sun does occasionally come out!
6. If you weren't in radio, what do you think you'd be doing professionally?
Stand-up comedian but I would be terrible. Mostly because I like to be in bed by 7pm and love having health insurance and a 401K.
7. Got any hobbies? Pick up any new hobbies during the pandemic?
Crippling anxiety and crying into the abyss. Oh and the Ukulele.
8. If you could be on any TV reality show or game show, which would you want to be on?
Wheel of Fortune! I have sent audition videos and have never heard back. They must be scared I would win too much money!
9. Who plays Liz Luda in a Netflix series about the station? Who plays Mike?
Do cartoons count? If so, we would totally be Lucy and Charlie Brown. I've been described as "A bit much"
10. Who were/are some of your radio mentors?
Evan Paul (aka Chunky). He saw me in the background of an Instagram story that Nugget Johnson posted and since then has gone above and beyond to always help me and give advice.
Scott Roddy is an amazing mentor/boss who has helped me figure out how to really elevate my breaks and utilize audio. He also helps accomplish my visions and supports my love for oversized hats.
Mike Vezzy is hilarious and I fully trust his opinion/insight on everything except Feta and Indian Food.
Bonus Questions
If you had to eat one type of meal every day for a month, what would it be? (Mexican, Italian..etc)
Greek Food!
You are alone and stuck on a deserted island. You have a shit-ton of batteries and a portable entertainment center featuring a DVD/CD player. You only have 3 movies and 3 albums for the next 3 months. What 3 movies and CDs would you want on hand?
Disney’s Hercules, Mean Girls (Because I really am a cool Mom) and Clueless. NSYNC "No Strings Attached", Lizzo "Cuz I Love You" and John Mayer "Continuum"
What's your favorite thing about doing morning radio?
Relating to listeners! I am a thick, awkward lady and growing up I never saw people like me on television or heard them on the radio. The amount of women who tell me how much they love hearing about someone else sweating through their spanx warms my heart.
