Pop singer Dua Lipa was born in 1995 in London. She grew up in Kosovo and as a teen, would post cover versions of songs by P!nk and Nelly Furtado on YouTube.
Upon returning to London at 15, she continued her studies and also began work as a model for an online catalogue company.
The singer’s music breakthrough was her second single, 2015’s “Be The One,” a huge hit across Europe. Other singles followed, with “Blow Your Mind (Mwah)” becoming the first to crack the U.S. Top 100 singles chart.
“New Rules,” a single from her debut self-titled album, became a monster hit, reaching #1 in the U.K. and reaching #1 on the U.S. Pop chart. She was named Spotify’s ‘most streamed female of 2017’ in the U.K.
Her 2018 collaboration with Calvin Harris, "One Kiss," reached the U.S. Top 10 and peaked #1 in the U.K. becoming the longest running #1 single for a female act that year.
She received five nominations for the 2018 Brit Awards – ultimately taking home two awards for Best Female Solo Artist and British Breakthrough Act. She won Best New Artist at the 61st Grammy awards, as well as Best Dance Recording for the song “Electricity” a collaboration with Silk City – a project created by producers Diplo and Mark Ronson.
In 2019 she released a clothing collection with the brand Pepe Jeans London. The following year she modeled and released a second design collaboration with the fashion company.
Lipa's second album, Future Nostalgia, was released in March 2020. Its first single "Don't Start Now," became a #1 smash in the U.S. and around the globe. Other singles followed, including "Break My Heart," "Hallucinate" and "Levitating." That track war remixed featuring Madonna and Missy Elliott and included on a remix package titled Club Future Nostalgia, released later that year.
In May 2020, she performed on the TV special Graduate Together: America Honors the High School Class of 2020 aimed at students whose graduation ceremonies and proms were canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Later that month, she was among 150 artists who took part in the online fundraising event, "Dream With Us," organized by One Humanity and Constellation. Proceeds were donated to organizations to help fight the COVID-19 pandemic. In November, she was the musical guest on Saturday Night Live.
Future Nostalgia was the most streamed album by a woman on Spotify in 2020. In February of 2021, she released another repackage titled Future Nostalgia: The Moonlight Edition, which features her current single, "We're Good."
