Paul McCartney
Oct 20, 2013

On October 15th, the legendary musician, Paul McCartney released his first album of brand new solo material in six years. On New, via Concord Music Group, he worked with producers Paul Epworth, Mark Ronson, Ethan Johns and Giles Martin. At 71, Paul McCartney has thankfully returned to the music of eternal youth. New feels energized and full of joyous rock & roll invention. More than a sentimental journey, it's an album that wants to be part of the 21st-century pop dialogue.
It is his sixteenth studio album and his first since 2007's Memory Almost Full to consist entirely of new compositions. McCartney has stated that the record was inspired by recent events in his life as well as memories of his pre-Beatles history, and that some of the arrangements are unlike his usual rock recordings. Reception to the first single "New" and the album as a whole has been positive and the song is already at Top 20 at Mainstream AC.
Guinness World Records described McCartney as the "most successful composer and recording artist of all time", with 60 gold discs and sales of over 100 million albums and 100 million singles, and as the "most successful songwriter" in United Kingdom chart history. More than 2,200 artists have covered his Beatles song "Yesterday", more than any other song in history. Wings' 1977 release "Mull of Kintyre" is one of the all-time best-selling singles in the UK. Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a solo artist in March 1999, McCartney has written, or co-written 32 songs that have reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100, and as of 2013 he has sold over 15.5 million RIAA-certified units in the United States. McCartney, Lennon, Harrison and Starr received MBEs in 1965, and in 1997, McCartney was knighted for his services to music.
Already Top 20 at Mainstream AC!
"The original idea was to go to a couple of producers whose work I loved, to see who I got on with best - but it turned out I got on with all of them! We made something really different with each producer, so I couldn't choose and ended up working with all four. We just had a good time in different ways."
