Neon Trees return with "Sleeping With A Friend," the first track from the band's forthcoming third full length album, Pop Psychology, which drops April 22nd via Mercury/Island Records. This single is an infectious ode to friends with benefits and it explores a more personal side of the artists, something that front-man, Tyler Glenn said fans can expect to hear throughout their upcoming album.
"Sonically speaking it's our biggest-sounding song to date," Glenn explains. "That is probably because I was listening to a lot of Peter Gabriel's So record. Those pop songs of his are so huge and great. However, this record is a lot more personal in nature overall. I mean, how much more personal can you get than sex? This is not a sex song the way 'Blurred Lines' is . . . It's the kind of sex song that isn't this S&M, Rihanna-fueled fantasy world, but something a lot more intimate and therefore dangerous."
The group, which includes guitarist Christopher Allen, bassist Branden Campbell and drummer Elaine Bradley, put down solid roots in their hometown of Provo, Utah, before making their national break in 2008 on tour with The Killers. Their first big album, Habits, followed the tour in 2010, with their second album, Picture Show, making a debut in 2012. Those albums yielded the respective hits "Animal" and "Everybody Talks."
Neon Trees have enjoyed the TV circuit with performances on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon and The Today Show. They have also recently entertained at a few surprise shows in Salt Lake City, Seattle, Portland, San Francisco and L.A.
