Matt Nathanson

"Headphones" is Matt Nathanson's newest song, it's an infectious, inspiring ode to the power of music. "I feel invincible with my headphones on," the chorus goes, a line lifted from one of Nathanson's journals. The track features rising singer Lolo, who went into the studio and "sang the (expletive) out of it," Nathanson says. "Headphones" is the first song off Nathanson's still-untitled ninth album, which is expected out this fall and has sparked a new approach to writing music for the singer.
"When I started writing the song, I attached it to this character and this idea of, when we're full of dread and the world is heavy and too much, you put your headphones on and music saves your life," he says.
Nathanson will continue to write when he's out on a co-headlining tour with longtime friend Gavin DeGraw, a two-month jaunt across North America. He'll be bringing a studio of sorts along for the ride: writing and recording demos on the bus during the day, and at night, playing shows.
