A Reminder From An Afternoon Of Pulling Weeds

Over the last several years, I've embraced renting a place to live in over owning. There's a peace in not having to worry if something breaks ... and living with cancer can make you not want to commit to anything except the fight!
Earlier this year I was given the news that I could take an extended break from treatment. This is the first break that I've had in my four-ear fight and so I decided that I needed to make a change in my living arrangements. Purchasing a home can be hard when you are dealing with a chronic, terminal diagnosis, but I'm thankful that I was able to find something as I continue this fight.
Last week as I was pulling out of my garage I saw something that looked like it had recently been planted. I put my Jeep in park and walked over, looked and shook my head as I was standing over a small patch of weeds. I decided to reach down to pull them out and the top of the weeds came off so I threw them in my garage and jumped back into my Jeep and went to the hospital for treatment.
A couple days later I decided to go back to take another look and I was astounded that they had already grown back. I reached down to pull them out again but this time I felt the root as I tugged on it. I realized it was deep, connected to another root and before I knew it I spent several hours pulling out this group of weeds that were deeply rooted under the surface.
As I was doing this I started to think about some of the individuals I've come in contact with who are dealing with a life tragedy. I've learned that those who thrive are deeply rooted in community, serve others, have hope, believe that everything works out and refuse to feel sorry for the circumstance they find themselves in!
I've also learned that those who struggle are on the opposite side of this.
Last week I had someone contact me and ask me to reach out to their friend who is struggling in life. I called him and he shared with me that a he had a medical setback that turned into a financial crisis and then into chemical dependency. Because he isn't deeply rooted, he's been isolated for several months causing anxiety, self-doubt and desperation.
Are you deeply rooted? Do you have the necessary support to make it through life's ups and downs? Are you struggling? Feel like you are alone? If so, reach out and we can find a way to get you rooted.
If you're okay, look around and find someone who isn't and help them - we are stronger together!
