It's December. What is the plan for thanking your top ten advertisers for 2006? They should receive more than a card. Much more. There should be a "thank you" gift for the top 10 clients from you personally. (not the same gift the sales department gives to the other 300 clients) plan it now. It doesn't have to be expensive, just personal and creative.

As of today you should have 80% of your budgeted revenue for December on the books. (if you are going to make it.) Are you close for the year? Making budget usually means a bonus for you and your sales managers. If you have made the last 11 months you already know how important this month is. Have a backup plan in case business "dies" in the next few weeks. Adding spots per hour should NOT be an option.

The Red Wolf filing against the Citadel stations last week reminded me to review the music policy in place at each station. Payola forms, agreements, and transparency of the music add policy are important. If there have been personnel changes in the music department, make sure they totally understand the policy. Ignorance is not an excuse with the FCC.

With the cold weather and more holidays still ahead of us, now is the time to love your engineering staff. Just a short meeting or lunch will go a long way towards their appreciation of you. GM's that show the slightest interest in the technical side reap many rewards from the tech staff. Ever been to the transmitter site?

Welcome back. How was the weekend? Did all the remotes come off ok? Check and make sure the vans are all gassed, clean and ready for the next set of holidays.Are your remotes an event? Sending a third string announcer to a client with a cell phone is embarrassing. Clients spending money for a station appearance expect "a visual event" in addition to an on air event. Now is the time to assess your remote platform. Even with no money, creativity and passion should be part of every outdoor remote. Follow up personally with each client to ensure a repeat order.
